Watch A Total Beginner Play In Minutes
No lessons. No sheet music. Just DecPlay's numbers and colours, on national radio.
Real Players. Real Stories.
People who were sure they had left it too late, now playing every day.
Why Most People Give Up On Piano
You are not alone, and it is not your fault.
So many people who start learning piano give up in the first year. Not because they lack talent, and not because they started too late. They quit because traditional lessons begin with one thing: sheet music. All those dots and lines take months to decode before you ever play a song you recognise.
For an older beginner that is doubly frustrating. The print is small, the theory feels like a foreign language, and after weeks of effort you still cannot play "Happy Birthday." Most people decide they are "just not musical" and give up. They were let down by the method, not their own ability.
See the difference for yourself. The same song in traditional notation, then the DecPlay way.
The old way: sheet music
- Months of decoding dots and lines before your first song
- Tiny print that is hard on older eyes
- Scales and drills, not the songs you love
- Most beginners quit, feeling they "failed"
The DecPlay way: numbers & colours
- Every white key is just a number from 1 to 7
- Large, clear print made for older beginners
- A real, beautiful song in your very first sitting
- Thousands of players in their 70s, 80s and 90s
DecPlay throws sheet music out. You follow simple numbers and colours, and you finally hear yourself play a real song instead of struggling through exercises.
Your Whole Keyboard, And Your Six Chords
Here is the entire trick. Coloured numbers tell your left hand which chord to hold. Black numbers tell your right hand the melody. A little line shows you how high or low to play. That is everything you need to read any DecPlay song.

A note from Declan, Founder of DecPlay
I created DecPlay because I watched too many older adults give up on a lifelong dream, convinced they had missed their chance or simply were not musical. They were wrong. The only thing standing in their way was sheet music.
So I built a method that throws it out. With DecPlay you do not read music, you do not need perfect dexterity, and you do not need years of lessons. You just need the wish to play. This little book is the gentlest possible place to start, and I would love for you to surprise yourself with it.
